BRANTFORD STEELHEADERS' GENERAL MEETINGS The Brantford Steelheaders hold their general meetings at the Brant Artillery Club (Gunners Club), 115 Henry Street, Brantford, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The meetings are upstairs. Everyone is welcome. Meetings are chaired by the President, and include status reports by each of the Directors. Reports are also received from various members with respect to the outside organizations and committees they liase with on behalf of the Steelheaders.

Each meeting agenda also includes a presentation by either a member or a representative of an outside group. These have included demonstrations of fly casting, fly tying, roe curing, videoes of fishing techniques and verbal presentations by local fishing guides and Ministry representatives.

The Brantford Chapter of the Ontario Steelheaders, enjoy many varied activities beyond the monthly meetings, such as:

  • Members of the Brantford Chapter may be found staffing the Ontario Steelheaders Booth and the Childrens' Activity Center at the Annual Spring Fishing Show in Toronto.

  • The Brantford Chapter hosts the Spring Ontario Steelhead Derby, held in May each year at Denny's Dam. It is a social event for members, families and friends. Awards for the largest fish are made with separate catagories for Ontario Steelheaders, Brantford Chapter, Juniors and live release upon authentication of length and girth measurements. A Barbeque and Michigan Fish Boil is the highlight of the day followed by a campfire.

  • The annual Bass Derby was held on Saturday July 19th on Lake Erie with awards and barbeque following in the weigh-in at 2:00 pm. at Lions Park in Port Rowen Harbor. First place for largest small mouth bass was won by Randy Alonzo while Larry Mellors took the large mouth bass award.

  • The Brantford Chapter organized stream rehabilitation projects on Whiteman's Creek and in June with work crews assembling Wednesday evenings at a local stream.

  • The Fall Ontario Steelheader Derby , held in October each year at Denny's Dam is also hosted by the Brantford Chapter and parallels the Spring Derby.

  • The Brantford Chapter's final annual activity is held at the December monthly meeting and is strickly a fun night with fishing related competitions and prizes for the winners.

    The Ontario Steelheaders is a very active organization which has earned an enviable reputation with the Provincial and local Governments, and other groups and organizations in Ontario.
